URGENT NOTICE FOR NEW GRADE 8 PARENTS

Dear Grade 8 Parents/Guardians

Request for new Grade 8 learners to start one day earlier in 2015 – Tuesday 13 January

The Principal and School Management Team (SMT) would like to extend a warm welcome to the new Grade 8’s starting in 2015. This promises to be an exciting year with Sunward Park High School (SPHS) changing the face of education in South Africa.

We have been nominated for the United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA) and our team is working very hard to ensure that we do South African education proud on the world stage next year. Your children will be a part of this prestigious occasion.

The e-learning “switch on”

You may already be aware that SPHS was the first public school to go 100% digital in 2013 and has pioneered the way for other government schools in e-learning. The education MEC Mr. Panyaza Lesufi has identified our school as the ‘blueprint’ model school of e-learning. Eventually every school in South Africa will be following the Sunward model. The MEC is already rolling out our e-learning formula at Thandi Eleanor Sibeko High School, Ponelopele Oracle High School, Tlamatlama Primary School, Tshepiso Primary School, Boitumelong High School and Phomolong High School. We are also training teachers from Gauteng schools to use technology in the classroom.

With this in mind, the MEC, national media and senior Ministerial Officials will be visiting our school on Tuesday, 13 January 2015 to showcase our school to the nation. We would like our new Grade 8 learners to be ready and prepared.

Rules for Grade 8 start of school – Tuesday 13 January 2015

1.     Learners must be in full school uniform.

2.     Learners must present proof of payment and e-learning licence payments.

3.     Learners must have their tablets fully charged.

4.     Learners must be seated in the school hall by 07h30.

Please note: This Grade 8 first day of school is extremely important for your child otherwise it will take them weeks to catch up and get orientated. Also, they will feel “lost” on the next day when Government visits our school. The following will take place on Tuesday 13 January 2015:

·         Learners will be taught how to use their tablets and our TYB resource portal.

·         Learners will be downloading their digital textbooks and learning materials for the year.

·         Timetables will be issued, classes allocated and register teachers will be introduced.

·         Learners will be fully orientated and introduced to the school and e-learning procedures.

SPHS would like to thank you for your cooperation in this matter and assure you that the extra effort will be well worth it. Your child is in the school of the future – and the future is now!

Yours faithfully

ASH PEENS

Principal
